Turney Lighting teams up with Homes For Our Troops – supplying $6000 in lighting and installation in a new home for injured local veterans.

When Donovan Turney returned from his tour of duty overseas uninjured, he knew he was one of the lucky ones. He was also fortunate to have a job waiting for him at Turney Lighting, a family-owned lighting and electrical supply business started by his father – Ron Turney. So when Homes For Our Troops contacted him to help out building a home for Staff Sargeant Nicolas McCoy of Boerne, Texas. Donovan Turney of Turney Lighting jumped right in – donating over $6000 worth of lighting and installation services for the project.

Army SSG Nicholas McCoy was on his second deployment in December 2006 when an IED blast near Iskandariyah, Iraq caused injuries so severe; it required the amputations of both of his legs. While on a dismounted patrol, an IED hidden in a pile of trash was detonated, injuring 5 soldiers and killing one instantly. Thrown into the air, SSG McCoy was left unconscious after the blast with a shattered right leg and broken hip, and severely injured left leg.  McCoy is just one of over 40,000 injured veterans who have returned to the US requiring special housing needs over the past ten years.

Homes For Our Troops is a national non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004 that builds specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans at no cost to them.  Chaired by General Richard A. Cody, Homes For Our Troops has earned top ratings from The American Institute of Philanthropy and Four Stars from Charity Navigator, one the premier charity rating services in the country. Currently Homes For Our Troops has completed six construction projects in Texas and has seven more in process.
